Bird genus - Scotopelia forms a sister clade with Ketupa; both are embedded in traditional Bubo (Wink 2016; Salter et al. 2020; Wink & Sauer-Gürth 2021). Maintained as a separate genus aligning with WGAC and Clements (2022).
